WhatsApp Business API in Gazipur: For Garment Factories, Worker Notices and Buyer Updates

Picture a knit factory in Konabari the week before Eid. HR needs 3,000 workers to know the holiday dates and when the bonus will land in their bKash. The merchandising team is sending lab dip photos to a buyer in Europe and chasing a trims supplier in Tongi. The commercial manager wants the covered van to leave for Chattogram on time. Most of this happens in personal WhatsApp groups that nobody at head office can see, on phones that leave when the staff leave. This guide explains how Gazipur factories put it on one official, company-owned WhatsApp setup, and what that costs.

Prepared by the On Cloud API team · Meta prices checked

Before you read. On Cloud API sells WhatsApp Business API access, so we have an interest here. We're a Meta Tech Provider based in Pakistan and we serve Gazipur online, without a local office. The page points out where that matters.

The short version: how does a Gazipur factory or business get the official WhatsApp API?

Register online with a Meta provider such as On Cloud API, link the factory's own Meta business portfolio and a dedicated phone number, and have your notice and update templates approved. Meta charges for each delivered template at the recipient's country rate, which is $0.0037 for a utility message in Bangladesh, plus the provider's monthly plan.

Five things to know

  • A factory number on the API belongs to the company. Buyer threads, supplier chats and worker notices stay when a merchandiser or HR officer leaves.
  • Worker notices such as salary day, shift changes and holiday dates are cheap: 4,000 workers × 4 notices a month is about $59 in Meta fees.
  • New numbers start at 250 different people a day. A factory that must reach every worker on the same day has to build that limit up first.
  • Not every worker uses WhatsApp. Keep the notice board and SMS for anyone who opts out or has no smartphone.
  • Personal WhatsApp groups and QR-code bulk tools can get numbers banned. The official Cloud API is the version Meta supports for business use.

How can a garment factory send notices to workers on WhatsApp?

HR collects the worker's own number and written consent at joining, adds them to the contact list by line or section, and sends approved Bangla templates: salary credited, shift change, holiday schedule, training dates. Workers can reply, and those replies land in a shared HR inbox instead of a supervisor's personal phone.

Many RMG factories now pay wages through bKash, Nagad or bank accounts. Surveys after 2020 found a large shift to digital wages, though some factories later went back to cash. Either way, the most common worker question on payday is "has it come yet?" One message answers it for everyone.

NoticeExample template (Bangla in practice)Likely category
Wages sent"Your {{1}} salary has been sent to your {{2}} account."Utility
Shift or overtime change"From {{1}}, your line {{2}} works the {{3}} shift."Utility
Eid holiday"The factory is closed from {{1}} to {{2}}. Work resumes {{3}}."Utility
Training or health camp"Fire safety training for section {{1}} is on {{2}} at {{3}}."Utility
Job openings to past applicants"We are hiring sewing operators. Reply to apply."Meta may class this as marketing

Meta decides the final category when it reviews each template, so treat the right-hand column as a guide. Keep notices factual and free of anything promotional.

Two cautions. First, a worker's phone number is personal data; it should live in the company's account with access limited to HR, not in a supervisor's contact list. Second, WhatsApp should add to your notice board, not replace it. Some workers share a phone, some use basic handsets, and some will not want work messages on their own phone. Their choice should be respected.

A shared HR inbox also gives workers a simple way to ask about leave, payslips or ID cards. If your buyers' codes of conduct ask for a worker communication or grievance channel, discuss with your compliance team whether a monitored WhatsApp line fits their requirements. We haven't checked any particular buyer's rules, so don't take this page as compliance advice.

Can a factory message 5,000 workers on the same day?

Not on day one. Meta lets a new account start conversations with 250 different people in any 24 hours. With steady, good-quality use, that rises to 2,000 and then to higher tiers. A factory planning same-day notices to its whole workforce should start a few weeks early and send to sections in batches until the limit grows.

  1. Week 1: send a welcome and consent confirmation to one or two sections a day, under 250 people.
  2. Weeks 2 and 3: regular notices to more sections. Watch the quality rating in the dashboard; blocks and reports pull it down.
  3. After that: once your limit allows it, send factory-wide notices in one go.

The limit counts new conversations you start. When a worker messages HR first, your reply does not use up the limit. Meta's messaging limits page has the current tiers.

How do merchandising teams use WhatsApp with buyers and buying houses?

Give each buyer account a thread on the factory number, assigned to the merchandiser who handles it. Sample approvals, lab dips, size sets, inspection dates and shipment milestones are shared there. A colleague covering leave reads the whole history, and management can see where an order stands without asking anyone to forward screenshots.

Buyers and buying-house staff already use WhatsApp for quick approvals. The problem for the factory is that these conversations sit on one merchandiser's phone. When that person moves to another factory, which happens often in this industry, the history and sometimes the buyer relationship go too.

  • Milestone templates: "PO {{1}}: bulk fabric in-house," "PP sample sent," "final inspection booked for {{2}}," "goods handed to forwarder." Short and dated.
  • Photos and files in the thread: lab dip photos, measurement sheets and inspection reports stay attached to the right PO.
  • Tags by buyer and season: filter all chats for one brand or one delivery month.
  • Buyer's time zone: schedule updates for their morning, not yours.

A buyer abroad who writes to you first can be answered freely inside Meta's service window. Messages you start need a template and are billed at the buyer's country rate. As of October 2026, a utility message costs $0.0220 to a UK number and $0.0034 to a US number.

How do suppliers, logistics firms and warehouses in Gazipur use it?

Mostly for order and movement updates. Fabric, trims and accessories suppliers confirm orders and delivery times to factories, chemical and spare parts suppliers send quotations and payment reminders, and transport and warehouse firms send pickup, loading and arrival notices. Each message is short, factual and goes from one company number.

BusinessMessages that save the most calls
Trims and accessories suppliersOrder received, in production, delivered to factory gate
Fabric and yarn millsDyeing lot ready, test report attached, dispatch date
Industrial suppliers (chemicals, machinery, parts)Quotation sent, delivery booked, invoice due
Covered van and transport firmsVehicle assigned, loaded, reached port or depot
WarehousesGoods received, stock count, release confirmed

Payment reminders stay in the cheaper utility category as long as they only state the amount and due date. Add a discount and Meta treats it as marketing. For shipments heading to the port, our Chattogram guide covers forwarders and C&F agents.

Is it useful for other businesses in Gazipur?

Yes. Clinics and hospitals near the industrial belt send appointment and report reminders, schools and training institutes send class and fee notices, wholesale and retail shops update regular buyers, and Facebook shops confirm cash-on-delivery orders before dispatch. The same shared inbox and templates work for all of them.

For shops selling online, the order flow is: confirm COD with one tap, send the courier tracking number, then a delivered message. Abandoned cart reminders from a Shopify or WooCommerce store are marketing under Meta's rules, so send one, not a chain. Our e-commerce messaging playbook sets out the full sequence, including bKash and Nagad payment messages.

If you're a small shop answering a few dozen chats yourself, the free WhatsApp Business App will do. Our comparison of the app and the API explains where the line is.

What does the WhatsApp Business API cost a Gazipur business each month?

Meta charges per delivered template, priced by the recipient's country. For Bangladeshi numbers, as of October 2026, that's $0.0037 for utility and a reported $0.0732 for marketing. Messages to buyers abroad use their country's rate. The provider's plan is added on top; On Cloud API charges $9.99 to $39.99 a month.

Gazipur exampleMonthly messagesMeta feesTotal with plan
Garment factory, 4,000 workers4 HR notices each = 16,000 utility$59.20$69.19 (Standard, 5 HR agents)
Merchandising team of 8300 milestone updates to US buyers, 200 to UK buyers$1.02 + $4.40 = $5.42$25.41 (Growth, 10 agents)
Trims supplier or transport firm1,500 delivery updates; 300 price lists to factories that opted in$5.55 + $21.96 = $27.51$37.50 (Standard)

For most factories, worker notices are the biggest line: about 1.5 US cents per worker per month for four notices. Merchandising costs almost nothing in Meta fees because most buyer chats are replies, not new templates; the plan is what you're really paying for there.

On taka: Meta charges in US dollars, and the taka amount depends on your bank's rate when the card is charged. Plans and one-time setup fees are on the On Cloud API pricing page; check with us which payment methods work from Bangladesh before you sign up. Meta updates rates during the year, and our country rate tracker shows the latest.

What should a Gazipur factory look for in a WhatsApp API provider?

Official Cloud API access, the account in the factory's own name, access controls so HR, merchandising and accounts see only their own chats, Bangla templates, and enough agent seats for every team. Ask for a written monthly estimate for your worker count and buyer volume, with Meta's fees listed separately from the provider's charge.

  • Official, not QR-based: unofficial tools put the factory number at risk. Our official versus unofficial API guide explains the difference.
  • Ownership and exit: the WhatsApp account and number should be in your Meta business portfolio, so you can change provider without starting again.
  • No surprise margins: some providers add a markup to every message. On Cloud API states it adds none to Meta's rates.
  • Team separation: HR chats with workers should not be visible to the merchandising team, and the other way round.
  • Support you can reach: if you want someone at the factory in Kaliakair or Sreepur for training, pick a provider with people in or near Gazipur. We support customers online only.

Which features and integrations do factories and suppliers use?

The shared multi-agent inbox, contact lists with tags, approved templates, bulk sending and a button chatbot cover most needs, and On Cloud API includes them in every plan. An AI agent, a sales pipeline and the Flow Builder are paid add-ons. HR, ERP or payroll software can trigger messages through the Cloud API and webhooks.

Templates for workers should be in Bangla; Meta accepts Bengali templates. Buyer templates are usually English. Keep them as separate approved templates.

How do you set up the API, use an existing number or switch provider?

Everything is done online. Verify the factory or company in Meta's business portfolio, add a number that is not tied to anyone's personal account, set the display name, submit templates, and add Meta's payment method. A number already on the WhatsApp Business App may join through Coexistence, and numbers on another provider can be migrated.

  1. Documents: trade licence, TIN or a utility bill showing the registered name and address, matched exactly on Meta.
  2. Number choice: a dedicated company SIM is best. Avoid a manager's personal number.
  3. Templates: start with wages, shift, holiday and buyer milestone templates.
  4. Roles: create HR, merchandising and accounts teams and test with a few volunteers before a factory-wide send.

Moving from another provider? Switch off two-step verification on the number first. Approved, good-quality templates come across; the quality rating does not. See the migration walkthrough and the step-by-step setup.

FAQ

How can a Gazipur business get the official WhatsApp Business API?

Sign up online with a Meta Tech Provider or Solution Partner such as On Cloud API. You connect your company's Meta business portfolio, add a dedicated number and get templates approved. Nothing needs to be done in person, so it works the same in Tongi, Konabari, Kaliakair or Sreepur.

What is the WhatsApp API price in Gazipur in taka?

Meta prices Bangladeshi messages in US dollars: as of October 2026, $0.0037 per utility template and a reported $0.0732 per marketing template. The taka figure depends on your bank's exchange rate. Provider plans are extra; On Cloud API's run from $9.99 to $39.99 a month.

Can a garment factory send salary and holiday notices to workers on WhatsApp?

Yes, to workers who gave their number and agreed to receive messages. Wage, shift, holiday and training notices sent as Bangla utility templates are cheap at $0.0037 each. Keep the notice board and SMS for workers who do not use WhatsApp or prefer not to get work messages.

How many workers can we message in one day?

A new account can start conversations with 250 different people in 24 hours. Meta raises this to 2,000 and then to higher tiers as you keep sending good-quality messages. Start a few weeks before you need factory-wide notices and send to sections in batches until the limit grows.

Is it safe to keep using personal WhatsApp groups for factory work?

It works until someone leaves with the phone or a group is reported and the number is restricted. Groups also put workers' numbers in front of everyone in them. A company number on the official API keeps history with the factory and lets you control who sees what.

Can merchandisers share one number with buyers?

Yes. The shared inbox lets several merchandisers use one company number, with each buyer's chat assigned to the right person and tagged by brand or PO. Photos, measurement sheets and inspection reports stay in the thread, so anyone covering leave can see the full history.

Can our ERP or payroll system send WhatsApp messages automatically?

Yes. Through the Cloud API and webhooks, an ERP, payroll or inventory system can send approved templates when something happens, such as wages processed or goods dispatched, and receive replies. A developer sets this up once; On Cloud API's documentation and support help with the connection.

Does the WhatsApp API work in Bangla?

Yes. Meta accepts templates in Bengali, and agents can reply in Bangla from the inbox. Factories usually keep worker templates in Bangla and buyer templates in English, approved separately, with the same variables so the system can pick the right one.

Can I keep the number we already use on WhatsApp?

Often. An eligible number on the WhatsApp Business App can be linked to the API through Coexistence and keep working in the app. Numbers on another API provider can be migrated using Meta's process; turn off two-step verification before you start.

Does On Cloud API have staff in Gazipur?

No. On Cloud API is based in Pakistan and supports Bangladeshi businesses online, including setup, templates and help when something goes wrong. If you need on-site training at the factory, ask providers whether they have staff in or near Gazipur before choosing.
