How to Get the WhatsApp Blue Tick in 2026
"We'll get you the blue tick for 25,000 rupees."
If someone has said that to you, stop reading their WhatsApp message and read this instead.
Here's the part they didn't tell you: applying for the WhatsApp blue tick costs nothing. Not one rupee, not one dirham, not one dollar. Meta charges no application fee. What people are selling you is the paperwork — and often, they're selling you a form they know you won't pass.
That's not because they're all dishonest. It's because most businesses, and quite a few providers, don't realise there are two completely different blue tick programmes in 2026. One is free but very hard to get. One is easy to get but costs a monthly subscription. Apply for the wrong one and you get rejected, then you wait 30 days before you can try again.
So let's do this properly. No sales pitch, no "contact us for details." Just what actually happens.
In 2026 there are two ways to get a blue tick on WhatsApp. Official Business Account (OBA) is free, only available to WhatsApp Business Platform (API) numbers, and requires your brand to be genuinely notable — meaning real coverage in independent news publications. Meta Verified for Business is a paid monthly subscription with no notability requirement, but availability varies by country and account type. If you're a small or growing business without press coverage, Meta Verified is your realistic route. If you're a recognised brand, apply for OBA — it's free.
First: green tick, blue tick, and the read receipt everyone confuses it with
Three different things share the same name, and it causes real confusion.
The blue double tick on a message means your customer read it. That's a read receipt. It has nothing to do with verification, and you cannot apply for it.
The green tick is what business verification used to look like. Meta unified badge colours across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, so the green tick became blue. If your business was verified under the old green tick system, your badge converted automatically — you don't reapply, and you don't pay anything. Any provider still selling you a "green tick package" in 2026 is quoting a product that no longer exists by that name.
The blue tick next to your business name is the verification badge. That's what this guide is about.
The part most guides skip: there are two programmes, not one
This is where the rejections come from.
| Official Business Account (OBA) | Meta Verified for Business | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost to apply | Free | Paid monthly subscription |
| Notability required? | Yes — press coverage in real publications | No |
| Who can apply | WhatsApp Business Platform (API) numbers only | Varies by country and account type |
| Decided by | Meta review of your brand's public presence | Identity and business verification |
| Realistic for | Recognised brands, banks, airlines, large retail | SMEs, growing brands, local businesses |
| If rejected | Reapply after 30 days | Fix details and resubmit |
Read that "notability required" row again, because it's the whole ballgame.
Meta assesses notability by looking at whether your business appears in online news articles from publications with sizeable audiences. And here's the line that matters most: paid or promotional content doesn't count. Neither do business directory listings or app listings. A sponsored article you paid a newspaper 50,000 rupees to publish is, from Meta's side, worth exactly nothing.
That single rule is why so many good, legitimate, profitable businesses get rejected. Being real isn't the test. Being newsworthy is the test. Notability is not a measure of whether your business is authentic — Meta says so explicitly. It's a measure of whether people search for you.
Which is a bit unfair, honestly. But it's the rule, and knowing it saves you a wasted application and a 30-day wait.
Route 1 — Applying through a Tech Provider (your WABA, your button)
On a Tech Provider model — the model On Cloud API uses — your WhatsApp Business Account sits inside your own Meta Business Portfolio. You own the number, the account and the history. Which means the OBA application button is in your dashboard, not somebody else's.
What you need before you apply
- Your number has been registered on the WhatsApp Business Platform for at least 30 days. Not 30 days since you signed up with a provider — 30 days live on the Platform.
- Business Verification completed on the portfolio that owns the number. This is the document check: SECP certificate, trade licence, Certificate of Incorporation, whatever your country issues. The name on the document must match the name on the portfolio.
- Two-step verification enabled on that specific phone number.
- Your display name approved.
- Full compliance with the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy — no open violations, no active restrictions.
How to submit it
- Open WhatsApp Manager from your Business Manager.
- In the Overview section, click the phone number you want verified.
- Confirm two-step verification is on for that number.
- Click Submit Request and fill in the form.
- Add up to five supporting links showing your brand in the news.
- Fill in countries of operation, parent brand if you have one, and primary language. These genuinely help the reviewer understand you.
What we do, and what we don't
We help you check eligibility before you burn an attempt, review your five links against what Meta actually counts, get your Business Verification documents right the first time, and escalate through Meta support if the application option doesn't appear in your Manager when it should.
We don't charge for any of that, and we can't approve your application. Nobody outside Meta can. We pass Meta's messaging rates through at 0% markup — verification support is part of the service, not a line item.
The honest bit: if your business has no independent press coverage, OBA will very likely be rejected regardless of who files it. We'd rather tell you that now than take a fee and let you find out in three weeks. If that's your situation, skip to Route 3.
Route 2 — Applying through a BSP or Solution Partner
If you signed up with a Solution Partner or a reseller, your WhatsApp Business Account may sit on their Business Portfolio rather than yours. In that setup you don't have the Submit Request button — they do.
How it works
- You raise a verification request with your provider's support team.
- They check Business Verification, two-step verification and display name status on their side.
- They submit the OBA request through their access.
- They relay Meta's decision back to you.
The requirements are identical — 30 days on the Platform, verified business, 2FA, approved display name, notability. Nothing about going through a BSP makes approval more likely. A BSP cannot buy notability for you, and any provider implying otherwise is selling something Meta doesn't sell.
Three questions worth asking your BSP
- "Is there a fee for the OBA application?" Meta charges nothing. If your provider charges, that's their service fee, and you're entitled to know what it buys.
- "Whose Business Portfolio is my WABA on?" This determines whether you can ever apply yourself, and whether you can move providers later without losing your number.
- "What's your honest read on my notability?" A good provider will tell you no. A weak one will take the fee and file anyway.
One structural note worth knowing: if your account is a coexistence account — where the same number runs on both the Business app and the Platform — Meta does not grant OBA at all. Those accounts must use Meta Verified instead. This is a Meta limitation and applies to every provider equally, so if someone promises you OBA on a coexistence setup, they're describing something that can't happen.
Route 3 — Applying from the WhatsApp Business app (Meta Verified)
This is the route that actually works for most businesses reading this, and it's the one the "blue tick service" sellers rarely mention — because there's nothing for them to sell. You do it yourself, from your phone, in about five minutes.
Meta Verified is a subscription. You pay Meta directly. It gives you a verified badge without the notability test, plus impersonation monitoring and account support that scales with the tier you pick. Meta offers four business plans — Business Standard, Business Plus, Business Premium and Business Max — and the price differs by country and by which assets you're verifying.
How to apply
- Open the WhatsApp Business app.
- Go to Settings or Business Tools.
- Tap Meta Verified. If you don't see it, it isn't available for your account or country yet — you can usually join a waitlist.
- Choose your plan.
- Select the account you want verified. You can often bundle a linked Facebook or Instagram account.
- Pay, then complete the verification method Meta shows you.
- Submit. Meta typically reviews within about three business days, longer at busy periods.
Before you tap apply
Make your business name, profile photo and contact details match your website and your registration documents exactly. Mismatches are the most common cause of a slow or failed review, and they're the easiest thing in this entire article to fix.
Two eligibility details that trip people up: you generally need to have been present on the app for a minimum number of days, and you can't have an active WhatsApp Business Premium subscription or an existing Meta Verified subscription running through Meta Business Suite at the same time.
So which route is actually yours?
Be honest with yourself for thirty seconds. Search your business name on Google News. Not your website, not your Facebook page — news.
- Several real articles from publications you didn't pay? Apply for OBA. It's free and you have a genuine shot.
- Nothing, or only sponsored posts and directory listings? Meta Verified is your route today. Build the press coverage over the next year, then apply for OBA — the two aren't rivals, they're sequential. Plenty of businesses start on Meta Verified and move to OBA once the foundation exists.
- Not on the API yet at all? Get onboarded first. The 30-day clock doesn't start until your number is live on the Platform, so the sooner that begins, the sooner you're eligible.
What the badge actually gets you (and what it doesn't)
Let's be measured here, because this is oversold constantly.
The clearest, most concrete benefit is one that's easy to verify and rarely mentioned: a number without OBA status doesn't show up when someone searches for your business inside WhatsApp. Your display name only appears to people who already saved your number. With OBA, you become discoverable. For a business whose customers try to find them on WhatsApp, that's not a vanity badge — that's a missing front door.
Beyond that, the badge signals you're the real account and not the scammer using your logo. In markets where WhatsApp fraud is common — and Pakistan, India, the UAE and Bangladesh all qualify — that matters.
What it does not do:
- It doesn't increase your messaging limits. Those come from your quality rating and verification tier.
- It doesn't protect you from a ban. A verified account that messages people without opt-in gets restricted like any other. If that's already happened, read our guide on recovering a banned number on a Tech Provider.
- It doesn't reduce your per-message cost. Meta's rates are set by your customer's country — see how WhatsApp API pricing really works.
- It won't rescue a bad message. A verified badge on a spammy broadcast is still a spammy broadcast.
Five mistakes that waste your application
- Paying for "press coverage" to qualify. Meta explicitly excludes paid and promotional content. You're buying a rejection.
- Applying before day 30. The Platform registration clock is a hard requirement, not a guideline.
- Applying with unfinished Business Verification. Verification comes first. Always.
- Changing your display name after approval. The badge is granted to the number and the display name together. Change the name and Meta reassesses it. One approved number in your account also doesn't guarantee approval for another number with a different display name.
- Reapplying immediately after rejection. You have to wait 30 days. Use them to fix the actual gap rather than resubmitting the same file.
Country notes
The programme rules are global. Documents and availability are local.
- Pakistan — Business Verification usually runs on SECP or NTN registration, and portfolio-name mismatches are the top cause of stalled verification. Notability is a genuine hurdle for most Pakistani SMEs; Meta Verified is the practical route. City-level detail on our Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad pages.
- UAE and Dubai — trade licence documentation, and free-zone entities should check the licensed name matches the display name they want verified.
- Bangladesh — a fast-growing WhatsApp commerce market where impersonation of F-commerce pages is common, which makes the badge unusually worth having. Talk to us about onboarding.
- UK and Canada — Companies House and corporate registration documents are straightforward here; notability is usually the only real barrier.
- USA — worth remembering the badge does nothing about the US marketing template restrictions, so plan your messaging strategy separately.
- India — the market with the most OBA approvals, largely because Indian business press coverage is dense enough that notability is achievable for mid-sized brands.
Sector matters too. Banks and financial services, healthcare providers and e-commerce brands get the most value from verification, simply because those are the categories scammers impersonate most. Real estate and education tend to benefit more from discoverability than from the trust signal.
The honest summary
Nobody can sell you a blue tick.
They can help you file correctly, tell you truthfully whether you qualify, and fix the boring things — document mismatches, missing 2FA, an unapproved display name — that cause most rejections. That help has real value. It just isn't the badge itself, and any price attached to it should be for the work, not the outcome.
If you're a recognised brand: apply for OBA, it's free, and take your five links seriously. If you're everyone else: Meta Verified today, OBA when the press coverage exists. And either way, get your Business Verification done, because nothing happens before that.
On Cloud API is a Meta Verified WhatsApp Cloud API Tech Provider. Your WABA stays in your own Business Portfolio, your number stays yours, and you pay Meta's per-message rates at 0% markup.
We'll look at your eligibility honestly before you apply — including telling you if the answer is "not yet, and here's why."
Frequently asked questions
Is the WhatsApp blue tick free in 2026?
The Official Business Account application is free — Meta charges no application fee. Meta Verified for Business is a paid monthly subscription paid to Meta. Any charge from a provider is their own service fee, not a Meta cost.
Can a Tech Provider or BSP guarantee me the blue tick?
No. Only Meta approves verification. A provider can check your eligibility, prepare the submission, fix document and display-name problems and escalate through Meta support. Guaranteed approval is not something any partner can offer.
How long does WhatsApp blue tick approval take?
Meta Verified reviews typically take up to about three business days. OBA depends on Business Verification finishing first, which can range from minutes to around two weeks, with the OBA review following after that. Meta publishes no guaranteed timeline.
What happens if my blue tick application is rejected?
For OBA you must wait 30 days before submitting a new request. Use that time to close the actual gap — usually notability, incomplete Business Verification or an unapproved display name — rather than resubmitting the same application.
Can I get the blue tick on the WhatsApp Business app without the API?
Through Meta Verified, yes, where it's available in your country. Through OBA, no — Meta does not grant Official Business Account status to WhatsApp Business app numbers, employee accounts or test accounts.
Does the green tick still exist?
No. Meta unified badge colours across its apps, so verified business accounts now show a blue tick. Businesses verified under the old green tick system had their badge converted automatically with no reapplication and no cost.
Do I lose the badge if I change my business name?
Possibly. OBA status is granted to the phone number and display name together, so changing the display name triggers a fresh notability and compliance assessment of the new name.
Does the blue tick increase my messaging limits?
No. Messaging limits are driven by your quality rating, your Business Portfolio's verification status and your sending history. Verification and messaging tiers are separate systems.
