WhatsApp Business API in Bangladesh (2026): New Rates, F-Commerce and Exporter Playbook

On 1 October 2026, Meta gave Bangladesh its own WhatsApp price list. Until then, Bangladeshi numbers were billed at a shared "Rest of Asia Pacific" rate. Now order updates and OTPs to Bangladeshi customers cost a fraction of what they did. That is good news for a Facebook page seller in Mirpur confirming 80 COD orders a day, and for a garments exporter in Gazipur chasing a buyer's approval in London, though the second one pays London's rate, not Dhaka's. This guide explains the new numbers and what to do with them.

Disclosure. On Cloud API publishes this guide and sells the WhatsApp Business API, including to businesses in Bangladesh. We note where we fit and where we don't. Rates come from Meta's announcements and provider rate summaries, checked on 10 October 2026.

Quick answer: how much does the WhatsApp Business API cost in Bangladesh in 2026?

From 1 October 2026, Meta charges $0.0037 per utility or authentication message to Bangladeshi numbers, down from $0.0113. Marketing messages are reported at $0.0732. Meta bills in US dollars, and your provider adds a platform fee. Sending OTPs to Bangladesh from an account registered abroad costs far more: $0.096 per message.

Key takeaways

  • Bangladesh left Meta's regional "Rest of Asia Pacific" group on 1 October 2026 and now has its own rates.
  • Order updates and OTPs got about two-thirds cheaper. Marketing did not, so promotions are now most of a typical bill.
  • Rates follow the customer's number. An exporter messaging a buyer in the UK pays the UK rate.
  • OTPs sent from a WhatsApp account registered outside Bangladesh pay the new authentication-international rate.
  • Meta supports Bengali templates, so order updates can go out in Bangla.

What changed for Bangladesh on 1 October 2026?

Meta moved Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Iraq out of their regional price groups. Meta said these markets would get lower utility and authentication rates plus a new, higher authentication-international rate. For Bangladesh, utility and authentication fell from $0.0113 to $0.0037 per message, and the authentication-international rate was set at $0.096.

Before the change, a Bangladeshi number was charged the same as most of the Asia Pacific region. That made a simple "your parcel is on the way" message relatively expensive for a market where order values are often small. The new rate fixes that for transactional messages. It does not make marketing cheap, and it introduces a trap for apps that send OTPs from abroad, both covered below.

What are the current WhatsApp API rates for Bangladesh?

Per delivered message to a Bangladeshi number, from 1 October 2026: marketing $0.0732 (reported), utility $0.0037, authentication $0.0037 and authentication-international $0.096. Customer-started replies have their own rules, covered below. We could not find published Bangladesh volume-tier thresholds, so plan on these starting rates.

About replies: Meta's own pricing page says free-form replies inside the 24-hour customer window are free, and that free entry-point windows from Click-to-WhatsApp ads stay open for 72 hours. Several providers report that from 1 October 2026 each business number gets 1,000 free service messages a month, with replies billed after that. Check your first invoice to see which applies to your account.

Meta bills these fees in US dollars; BDT is not one of Meta's billing currencies, so your bank converts at its own rate. For every country's rates, see our 2026 country-wise pricing guide.

What does the WhatsApp API cost for a real Bangladeshi business?

It depends on who you message and why. A Facebook seller with 2,000 orders a month pays about $59 in Meta fees, mostly for one promotion. An exporter messaging foreign buyers pays a few dollars. An app sending 20,000 OTPs pays $74 from a Bangladeshi account, but $1,920 from an account registered abroad.

BusinessMessages in a monthWorkingMeta fees
F-commerce seller (2,000 orders)3 order updates each, plus one 500-person promotion6,000 × $0.0037 = $22.20; 500 × $0.0732 = $36.60$58.80
Garments exporter300 updates to UK buyers, 200 to US buyers300 × $0.0220 = $6.60; 200 × $0.0034 = $0.68$7.28
App sending OTPs (Bangladeshi account)20,000 OTPs20,000 × $0.0037$74.00
Same app, account registered abroad20,000 OTPs20,000 × $0.096$1,920.00

Add your provider's platform fee to each line; On Cloud API plans run from $9.99 to $39.99 a month. The f-commerce row shows the new reality: order updates are cheap, so the one promotion is 62% of the bill. Send it to past buyers, not your whole page audience.

How should an f-commerce seller use WhatsApp for COD, couriers and payments?

Start with a COD confirmation as soon as the order comes in, then send a tracking update when the courier picks up and a note if delivery fails. Use bKash, Nagad or SSLCommerz payment links to move buyers to prepaid where you can. At $0.0037 per update, three messages per order cost about a cent.

Most Bangladeshi online sellers run on Facebook and Instagram, take orders in Messenger and comments, and ship cash on delivery through Pathao, Steadfast, RedX, Paperfly or Sundarban. WhatsApp fits after the order is taken:

  1. Confirm the order. A utility template with Confirm and Cancel buttons, sent before you book the courier. Unconfirmed orders don't get packed.
  2. Share tracking. When the courier's status reaches your store or automation tool, through the courier's merchant API, a webhook or a store app, send the consignment number. Ask your courier what tracking data it exposes before you build.
  3. Catch failed deliveries. "The rider couldn't reach you. When should we try again?" saves parcels that would otherwise come back.
  4. Take payment. A payment link from your gateway (bKash, Nagad, card through SSLCommerz), then a receipt as a utility message. A discount for paying upfront is a promotion, so send it as marketing.

The same flow is explained in detail, with template examples, in our e-commerce order lifecycle playbook and COD confirmation guide. To connect a store, see connecting the API to n8n.

How can RMG and B2B exporters in Bangladesh use the WhatsApp API?

Exporters mostly message buyers and agents abroad, so they pay the buyer's country rate, not Bangladesh's. The volumes are small and the value per chat is high. Use a shared inbox so merchandisers don't keep buyer chats on personal phones, and send utility templates for sample dispatch, approval reminders, shipment and invoice updates.

  • Keep buyer chats on a company number. When a merchandiser leaves, the conversation history and the buyer stay with the company.
  • Use templates for status updates: sample dispatched with courier number, lab test result ready, shipment booked, invoice due.
  • Share catalogues and tech packs as documents inside an open conversation.
  • Mind the time zone. A buyer in New York replying at night in Dhaka still opens a 24-hour window you can answer in the morning.

Freight forwarders and buying houses can use the same setup for purchase-order updates and payment follow-ups. For team setup, see one number, one team.

Why do OTP apps need to watch the authentication-international rate?

Because it is 26 times the domestic rate. If a fintech, ride or delivery app sends OTPs to Bangladeshi users from a WhatsApp account registered in another country, each OTP costs $0.096 instead of $0.0037. Registering a Bangladeshi business account for local users, and keeping SMS as a fallback, avoids most of that cost.

This catches regional companies that run one WhatsApp account from Singapore, Dubai or India for several countries. Before 1 October 2026, Bangladesh had no international OTP rate, so the problem simply did not exist. Check where your sending account is registered. Our WhatsApp OTP vs SMS OTP comparison helps you decide when SMS is cheaper.

Can you send WhatsApp templates and chatbot replies in Bangla?

Yes. Meta supports Bengali as a template language, so order confirmations and reminders can go out in Bangla script. Customers often reply in Banglish, such as "order cancel korte chai", so test your chatbot with real messages before switching it on, and hand anything unclear to a person quickly.

Create a separate template for each language rather than mixing scripts in one message; it makes approval simpler. Keep the bot to predictable questions like delivery charge inside and outside Dhaka, size charts and payment options. An AI agent can answer product questions from your own catalogue; read chatbot versus AI agent.

What do you need to get the WhatsApp API approved in Bangladesh?

A Meta business portfolio, a phone number you control, a display name that matches your brand, and a payment method Meta accepts. Business verification needs documents that show your legal name and address, such as a trade licence, TIN certificate or utility bill. The name should match your website and Facebook page, or verification slows down.

  1. Connect your Meta business portfolio through your provider.
  2. Add a number. A WhatsApp Business App number can often keep working through Coexistence; see our Business App vs API guide.
  3. Verify the business for higher sending limits. New accounts start at 250 unique people in a rolling 24 hours, and Meta can raise that to 2,000 as you send good-quality messages.
  4. Get templates approved in English and Bangla, then go live.

Moving from another provider? Meta documents a route to move your account and number; turn off two-step verification first and ask what happens to chat history. The full walkthrough is in our setup guide and number migration guide.

How should a Bangladeshi business choose a WhatsApp API provider?

Ask four questions: is it the official Cloud API, is the account registered in your name, does the provider add anything to Meta's per-message rate, and can it connect your store, courier and payment gateway? Ask for a sample bill with Meta's fees shown separately. A cheap plan with a hidden per-message markup costs more as you grow.

  • Avoid unofficial tools that link a phone by QR code; they risk a ban. Read official versus unofficial APIs.
  • Compare like for like. Some providers bundle messages as credits; convert them back to per-message prices.
  • Check support hours against Bangladesh time and whether anyone answers in Bangla.

Where On Cloud API fits: plans cost $9.99 to $39.99 a month with the shared inbox, templates, bulk campaigns and chatbots included, and On Cloud API says it adds no markup on Meta's per-message rates. The AI agent and Flow Builder are paid add-ons. Meta bills its message fees to your own account. We are based in Pakistan, so if you need in-person support in Dhaka, a local partner may suit you better; if you are happy with online support, see our WhatsApp API Bangladesh page and pricing. Ask us about payment options from Bangladesh before you sign up.

We have not verified the pricing of local providers such as Whatsfly, Botsailor, Whatsping or WAMSoft, or regional ones like DoubleTick, Interakt and respond.io, so compare their current pages directly.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the WhatsApp Business API cost in Bangladesh in 2026?

From 1 October 2026, Meta charges $0.0037 per utility or authentication message to Bangladeshi numbers, and marketing messages are reported at $0.0732. Meta bills in US dollars. Your provider adds a platform fee; On Cloud API plans run from $9.99 to $39.99 a month.

What changed in WhatsApp pricing for Bangladesh on 1 October 2026?

Meta moved Bangladesh out of its regional Rest of Asia Pacific group. Utility and authentication messages fell from $0.0113 to $0.0037, and a new authentication-international rate of $0.096 now applies to OTPs sent from accounts registered outside Bangladesh.

Can I pay WhatsApp API fees in BDT?

Meta does not list BDT as a billing currency, so its message fees are charged in US dollars and converted by your bank. Platform fees depend on the provider; ask which payment methods it accepts from Bangladesh before you sign up.

Can I send WhatsApp messages in Bangla?

Yes. Meta supports Bengali as a template language, so order confirmations, reminders and receipts can be sent in Bangla script. Create a separate template for each language and test chatbot replies with real Banglish messages from customers.

How can f-commerce sellers use WhatsApp for COD orders?

Send a COD confirmation with Confirm and Cancel buttons as soon as the order arrives, and pack only confirmed orders. Then send courier tracking and failed-delivery messages. At $0.0037 each, three updates per order cost about a cent in Meta fees.

Can WhatsApp connect with Pathao, Steadfast or RedX?

Yes, if the courier's status updates reach your store or automation tool through its merchant API, a webhook or a store app. Each status change then triggers an approved WhatsApp template with the consignment number. Ask your courier what tracking data it provides.

Can I send bKash or Nagad payment links on WhatsApp?

Yes. Generate the link from your payment gateway and send it in the chat or in a template. A payment receipt is a utility message. An offer that rewards paying upfront is marketing, so send it as a marketing template.

What rate do exporters pay when messaging foreign buyers?

The buyer's country rate, because Meta charges by the recipient's phone number. A utility message to a UK buyer costs $0.0220 and to a US buyer $0.0034. Volumes are usually small, so exporters' bills stay low.

What documents are needed for WhatsApp API verification in Bangladesh?

Documents that show your legal business name and address, such as a trade licence, TIN certificate or utility bill. The name should match your website and Facebook page. You also need a Meta business portfolio, a phone number and a payment method.

Is the official WhatsApp API safe from bans in Bangladesh?

Using the official Cloud API does not get you banned; it is the route Meta supports. Numbers can still be limited if many people block or report your messages, so send only to customers who agreed to hear from you.
