How to Get the WhatsApp Blue Tick in Dubai & UAE (2027 Guide)
A Dubai trade licence gets your business verified by Meta. It doesn't get you the blue tick. That gap is where most UAE applications fall down, so this guide explains what Meta actually checks, the two routes to a badge, and what to fix before you apply.

Quick answer
The free WhatsApp blue tick is the Official Business Account (OBA) badge, the same badge that used to be green. To request it, your number must be on the WhatsApp Business Platform (API), your business must pass Meta Business Verification (a UAE trade licence works for this), your display name must be approved, two-step verification must be on, and your brand needs independent news coverage. You submit the request in WhatsApp Manager and Meta decides. On the free WhatsApp Business App, the only badge option is Meta Verified, a paid monthly subscription where it's offered.
Two different badges, and why people mix them up
Official Business Account (OBA)
Free. API numbers only. Meta grants it to brands it considers notable, meaning people are likely to search for them and could be fooled by an impersonator. Your paperwork gets you to the door; press coverage gets you through it.
Meta Verified for business
Paid monthly subscription for WhatsApp Business App users, where Meta offers it. You verify your identity and pay for the badge plus extra account support. It isn't a paid shortcut to the OBA badge.
And the blue double-check next to a message? That's just a read receipt. It has nothing to do with verification, though we still get asked about it every week.
If you're on the Business App and want to see whether Meta Verified is offered for your UAE number, open the app and look under Settings → Meta Verified. Meta rolls it out market by market, so check the app itself rather than a blog list.
What a UAE business needs
| Requirement | What it means in the UAE |
|---|---|
| WhatsApp Business Platform (API) | Required for the free OBA badge. Connect directly with Meta or through a Tech Provider or BSP. |
| Meta Business Verification | Your trade licence (mainland or free zone) as the legal-name document, with the same name, address and phone on your website and in Meta Business Settings. |
| Approved display name | Must clearly relate to your business. Your brand name is fine if your website or licence shows the link to the legal entity. |
| Two-step verification | Switched on for the phone number you're requesting the badge for. |
| Notability | Up to five links to independent news or editorial coverage of your brand, for example Gulf News, Khaleej Times, The National or a respected trade publication. Paid articles, sponsored posts and directory listings don't count. |
| Policy compliance | Your business and messages must follow WhatsApp's Business and Commerce policies. A number with policy problems is a poor candidate. |
Notice what isn't on that list: a minimum number of messages, a waiting period of 30 to 60 days, or a follower count. You'll see those in some guides, but they aren't Meta's published criteria. A new API number with genuine press coverage can qualify. An old, busy number without coverage usually won't.
How to apply for the blue tick in the UAE
- Get your number on the API. If you're still on the Business App, move the number to the WhatsApp Business Platform. On Cloud API connects you on Meta's official Cloud API through Embedded Signup.
- Complete Meta Business Verification with your trade licence. Make sure the licence name, website footer and Meta Business Settings match.
- Get your display name approved and turn on two-step verification for the number.
- Collect up to five press links about your brand from independent publications.
- Submit the Official Business Account request in WhatsApp Manager: select the phone number, open its settings and request the badge, then add your links.
- Wait for Meta's decision. Meta reviews the request and emails the result. If it's declined, you can reapply after a waiting period, ideally once you have stronger coverage.
Meta doesn't publish a fixed review time, so be wary of anyone quoting you an exact number of days. The slow part is usually step 4: earning real coverage takes longer than any form.
Why UAE blue tick requests get declined
Common reasons
- No independent press, only the company's own website and social pages
- Press links that are paid, sponsored or press-release reposts
- Business Verification incomplete, or names that don't line up
- Display name that doesn't clearly relate to the business
- A business category or behaviour that breaks WhatsApp's policies
What actually helps
- Genuine coverage: a launch, an award, an expansion, an interview
- One consistent name across licence, website and Meta
- A clean number with a healthy quality rating
- A full WhatsApp business profile: logo, description, website, address
- Patience. Reapply when you have better links, not the next day
A low quality rating isn't listed by Meta as an automatic rejection, but a number that's being flagged by customers won't help your case, and it can get you restricted anyway. Our guide on protecting your WhatsApp quality rating covers how to keep it healthy.
What the blue tick costs in the UAE
The OBA badge itself is free. Meta doesn't charge for it. What you pay for is using the WhatsApp Business Platform:
- Meta's per-message charges. Since July 2025 Meta bills per delivered template message, and the rate depends on the category (marketing, utility, authentication) and the recipient's country. Check Meta's current rate card for UAE recipients.
- Your provider's platform fee. On Cloud API passes on Meta's rates at 0% markup, and plans are listed on the pricing page. Some providers add a markup per message, so compare the full quote.
From 1 October 2026 Meta also changes how service conversations are billed: each business WhatsApp number gets one pool of 1,000 free service messages a month, shared across all your customers, and utility templates sent inside an open 24-hour window become billable. Meta Verified, if you go that route on the app, is a separate monthly subscription.

Dubai real estate and the blue tick
Real estate is where we see the most blue tick requests in Dubai, and it makes sense. Leads arrive from property portals, ads and QR codes on signboards, and fake agent numbers are a known problem. A badge tells a buyer they're talking to the real brokerage.
The rules don't change for real estate, though. Your RERA registration, broker cards and Trakheesi permit numbers are proof that you're a licensed business, and they belong on your website and business profile. They aren't press coverage, and neither are portal listings. What moves the needle is editorial coverage of the brokerage itself: a feature on a big project launch, a market commentary quote, an award.
For most brokerages, the bigger win is how they use WhatsApp day to day. Our WhatsApp for Dubai real estate agents guide covers lead capture, qualification and compliant property broadcasts.
Pakistan and other markets
Meta's OBA criteria are the same worldwide. What changes by country is the document you use for Business Verification:
| Country | Typical legal-name document |
|---|---|
| UAE | Trade licence (DET mainland or free zone authority) |
| Pakistan | SECP certificate or firm registration, plus FBR NTN |
| India | GST certificate or certificate of incorporation |
| UK | Companies House certificate of incorporation |
| USA | Articles of incorporation or IRS EIN letter |
| Bangladesh | Trade licence or RJSC incorporation certificate |
| Australia | ABN or ASIC registration |
If you run a business in both Dubai and Pakistan, verify each WhatsApp number under the business portfolio of the legal entity that actually owns it. Frequently asked questions
Is the WhatsApp blue tick the same as the old green tick?
Yes. It's the same Official Business Account badge. Meta changed its colour from green to blue in 2024 so it matches Instagram and Facebook, and accounts that already had the green tick got the blue one automatically.
Can I get the blue tick in the UAE with the free WhatsApp Business App?
Not the free Official Business Account badge, which is only for numbers on the WhatsApp Business Platform (API). On the Business App, the only option is Meta Verified, a paid monthly subscription that Meta offers in selected markets. Check Settings, then Meta Verified, in the app to see if it's available for your number.
Is a UAE trade licence enough to get the blue tick?
No. A mainland or free zone trade licence is used for Meta Business Verification, which proves your business is legal. The blue tick also needs an approved display name, two-step verification and independent news coverage showing your brand is notable. Meta makes the final decision.
What counts as press coverage for the WhatsApp blue tick?
Independent news or editorial articles about your brand, such as coverage in Gulf News, Khaleej Times, The National or a respected trade publication. You can add up to five links. Paid articles, sponsored posts, press-release reposts, directory listings and your own social media pages don't count.
How long does WhatsApp blue tick approval take in Dubai?
Meta doesn't publish a fixed review time. Getting on the API and completing Business Verification can be quick if your documents match. The slow part for most businesses is building genuine press coverage before they apply. If Meta declines the request, you can reapply after a waiting period.
Does the WhatsApp blue tick cost money in the UAE?
The Official Business Account badge is free. You pay Meta's per-message charges for using the WhatsApp Business Platform and your provider's platform fee. On Cloud API passes on Meta's rates at 0% markup. Meta Verified on the Business App is a separate paid subscription.
Do Dubai real estate brokers get the blue tick faster?
No. The criteria are the same for every industry. RERA registration, broker cards and Trakheesi permits prove you're licensed, but they aren't press coverage. Editorial coverage of the brokerage itself, such as a project launch feature or an award, is what helps.
Why was my WhatsApp blue tick request declined?
The most common reasons are no independent press coverage, press links that are paid or promotional, incomplete Business Verification, a display name that doesn't clearly relate to the business, or policy problems with the business or number. Fix those, collect stronger coverage and reapply after the waiting period.
