Almost every Pakistani business owner who asks us about the "blue tick" means something slightly different. Some mean the old green tick, some mean the blue double-check in chats, and some just want customers to trust their number. This guide sorts that out, then covers the documents, the real cost and a scam that's doing the rounds.

For a business, the "blue tick" is the Official Business Account (OBA) badge, the same badge that used to be green. To get it for free, your number must be on the WhatsApp Business Platform (API), your Meta business must be verified, your display name approved, two-step verification switched on, and your brand needs real, independent press coverage. You then request it in WhatsApp Manager. On the free Business App, the badge only comes through Meta Verified, a paid subscription. Either way, Meta decides. No provider can guarantee it.

The green-to-blue switch was only a colour change. Meta moved WhatsApp's badge to blue in 2024 so it matches Instagram and Facebook. Businesses that already had the green tick got the blue one automatically. If a blog still talks about the "green tick process", it's describing the same thing.

Honest take: most small and mid-size Pakistani businesses won't pass the notability check for the free OBA badge yet. That's fine. A clear display name, a proper business profile and consistent, useful messages build more trust with customers than a badge does. The badge matters most for brands that people might be impersonating.
Documents and requirements for the blue tick in Pakistan
Meta's own OBA requirements are global. Pakistani businesses should also have their local paperwork lined up so that everything Meta sees matches:
- SECP registration (for a company) or firm or sole-proprietor registration. Meta uses it to confirm your legal identity during Business Verification. It doesn't earn you the badge by itself.
- FBR NTN in the same business name.
- A live website on your own domain, with your business name, contact page and privacy policy. Meta checks this.
- Meta Business Verification completed on the portfolio that owns your WhatsApp number.
- Approved display name that matches your brand, and two-step verification switched on for the number.
- Notability evidence: up to five links to independent news or editorial coverage of your brand. Paid articles, press-release sites and directory listings don't count.
How to apply for the WhatsApp blue tick
- Get your number onto the WhatsApp Business Platform, either directly with Meta or through a Tech Provider.
- Complete Meta Business Verification with your SECP/NTN details and website.
- Get your display name approved and turn on two-step verification.
- Collect your press links.
- In WhatsApp Manager, select the phone number and submit the Official Business Account request with your links.
- Wait for Meta's decision. If it's declined, Meta lets you reapply after a waiting period, ideally with stronger coverage.

The OBA badge itself is free. What you pay for is using the WhatsApp Business Platform, and that has two parts:

Watch out for fake "blue tick" offers
Wherever there's demand for a badge, there's someone selling a fake one. The pattern in Pakistan is almost always the same:
- A message or call says your business is "eligible for WhatsApp verification" or offers a "guaranteed blue tick in 24 hours".
- They ask for the 6-digit code WhatsApp just sent you, your two-step PIN, or a "processing fee".
- Once you share the code, they take over your WhatsApp account and start messaging your customers.
Meta is fighting this at scale too. WhatsApp said it banned more than 6.8 million accounts linked to scam centres in the first half of 2025.
